Know What You’re Getting.

You’ve heard about CBD and that it may help support your well-being. You’re interested in trying CBD, but where do you begin?

Making an educated decision about what CBD product is best for you starts by understanding the three major types of CBD. They are CBD isolate, full spectrum CBD, and broad spectrum CBD. Learn why a full spectrum CBD, might be the right choice for you.

CBD Isolate

CBD isolate products contain 99% pure or more CBD depending on their form. Products come as a white powder or mixed with a carrier oil such as MCT oil for improved absorption.

The extraction process for CBD isolate starts like other extraction processes. After the initial extraction takes place the CBD oil goes through a purification process where all plant material is filtered out. This process removes cannabinoids such as THC, terpenes, flavonoids, as well as other naturally occurring elements. Finally, the CBD oil goes through what is known as a “winterization process” to remove any waxes or other remaining plant materials.

A pure CBD isolate is the product of choice for those who want the benefits that CBD has to offer but are sensitive to other cannabinoids such as THC or those who can’t have any THC in their system.

3 Major Types Of CBD: Full SpectrumFull Spectrum CBD

Full spectrum or “whole plant” CBD contains a wide range of cannabinoids. The two main compounds found in hemp plants are CBD (cannabidiol) and CBDa (cannabidiolic acid). Because CBDa is more abundant than CBD, in hemp oil, it must go through a heating process (decarboxylation) to change it into CBD.

Full spectrum CBD also contains other naturally occurring elements valued for their therapeutic effects. These include:

  • Terpenes
  • Vitamins
  • Beta Carotene
  • Minerals
  • Essential fats & proteins

Depending on the condition you are treating and the results you want to achieve, full spectrum CBD may prove more effective than CBD alone. That is because all the compounds in the plant, including trace amounts of THC, work together in what is known as the entourage effect.

Important cannabis testing, comparing completely purified CBD extract to full spectrum CBD found that the whole plant extract, proved far more effective.

3 Major Types Of CBD: Broad SpectrumBroad Spectrum CBD

Broad spectrum CBD is full spectrum CBD without THC. There are two ways that broad spectrum CBD can be manufactured.

The first is to add beneficial cannabinoids (minus the THC), terpenes, and flavonoids to CBD isolate.

The second method to make broad spectrum CBD is through additional processing of full spectrum CBD to remove all trace amounts of THC.

Broad spectrum CBD is an alternative to CBD isolate for those who cannot have any traces of THC in their system but want the benefits of full spectrum CBD.
